Boston's Birth Story

First blog post in six months…definitely a new record. I’ve had so much I could and should have written about, but I just haven’t. For multiple reasons that I will probably never go into. But that’s not the point of this post! I just looked through my last post, and I guess I never even announced that we were pregnant, but we were! We found out we were pregnant in February, and found out in April that we were having a boy, and that the genetic testing came back perfect! The entire pregnancy was extremely uneventful. Hudson kept me busy, so I didn’t have much time for anxiety. I didn’t start seeing my doctor weekly until I was 32 weeks! During my 20 week ultrasound, we found out that my placenta was at the front of my uterus, so my doctor sent me to maternal fetal medicine so they could make sure I didn’t have what is called Placenta Accreta. They confirmed that I didn’t, and for the next 15 weeks I was on a high of having a perfect pregnancy. At 35 weeks, my doctor wanted me to get ...

Eleven Months With Hudson

Image
Two whole months since I last blogged…I think that might be a record! There are so many reasons for my lack of posting that I may or may not go into later. First, Hudson is a madman and keeps me moving! When he goes down for naps, all I want to do is sit and stare mindlessly at my phone or the tv. Second, we have been really busy lately with house stuff, backyard stuff, going out of town, planning Hudson’s birthday party, and spending time with FRIENDS! I still can’t get over the fact that we have the best people living near us. I love all our neighbor friends so much, and we spend a lot of time with them! Third, Hudson went through two different weeks of awful sleep, but I’ll dive into that more later. Fourth, there has been a lot of stuff going on in the news that has me all sorts of emotional. I know my emotions are what fuels this blog, but some things are probably better not said. Anyway, let’s move onto the fun stuff!! The last time I posted, Hudson had just barely started cra...

Nine Months With Hudson

Image
NINE MONTHS!!! The last nine months have gone at a really great pace; not too fast, not too slow. But it’s weird to think that in only three months he’s going to be one. I swear, it was just Christmas and he was only six months old. Each month just keeps getting more and more fun, though. As he develops and gets more interactive, we keep having the best times. He really is so great! We had his nine month appointment earlier today and were surprised by his stats!! At his six month appointment, he was in the 11th percentile for weigh, 0 percentile for height, and 57th percentile for his head. Things have changed so much!! He weighs 17 pounds 1 oz (5th percentile), is 27 inches tall (12th percentile!!), and is in the 33rd percentile for head. He has only grown three inches, but that made a big difference in the percentiles, which is good! And it’s normal for babies to thin out as they start getting mobile, which he definitely has! Around my birthday he finally started to be able to sco...

Turning 28

Image
Well, I’ve been 28 for five days now, and I’m not really sure that anything has changed. But I am sure that this is how people wind up saying “where has the time gone” when they hit fifty. Some days I feel I was just in high school, and other days I feel like I’ve lived a million lives. Time is just the weirdest thing. I like the sound of 28 though. It sounds like a good, solid, number. It also sounds like the age where you should have your crap together, which I most definitely do not. But I’ve gotten decently good at pretending. We spent my birthday weekend relaxing and eating, basically our two favorite things. On Saturday, we hung out with family for a few hours, then got Mexican food for dinner. And on Sunday, it was the same thing, but with Costa for dinner. Our favorite thing to do for the past eight and a half months is to just hang out at home as a family and watch Hudson grow, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my birthday. For the last three birthdays now, I al...

Protecting Yourself

Have you seen the episode of The Office where Michael hits Meredith with his car, and then she has to go to the hospital? And when Michael walks in with some of the gang, he looks at Meredith and says peacefully, “She’s in a coma,” which she obviously is not. Brandon and I watched this episode while we were waiting for them to take me back for my D&C in 2017. (Side note, saying the year like that makes it seem like so long ago. Holy cow.) When I woke up in the recovery room with Brandon, the first thing I said while my eyes were still closed was “she’s in a coma.” I figured I might as well try and lighten the mood. We went home that afternoon and made french toast and watched tv, and did that until well into the evening. Later that night, I don’t remember what time it was, I just remember it was dark outside, a heated discussion started in our neighborhood Facebook group. At one point, a neighbor said to one of our friends (who we met because of our losses) “I’m guessing you don...

Full Circle

Today I took Hudson to a baby story time at the library. It was our first time going to story time, but not our first time at this library; we had been a few times since we moved. And actually, his first time at this library wasn't my first time. The first time I went to this specific library was two weeks after we lost Carter. Share, the wonderful organization that has supported us through everything, was having a support group there that night, and we went. They started by having us go around the table and share our story. When it got to us, I couldn't even make it through one sentence. I just cried, and I kept crying during the entire meeting. Brandon and the husband of the couple next to us passed the box of tissues back and forth all night. That mom is a good friend of mine now, but the first time I reached out to her I introduced myself as the girl she shared the Kleenex box with. We never went to another support group, but we did go for a lot of drives during that gri...

Eight Months With Hudson

Image
Eight months!! Holy moly! I can’t believe Hudson has been here for this long. It has gone fast, but not too fast. I think it’s going at the perfect speed actually. We are enjoying every single day and love watching him grow and develop. Honestly though, I don’t even know where the last month has gone. It seems like just last weekend he turned seven months. I’m trying to think about big things that have happened this month, and it’s hard because that’s how fast time has gone. He’s still not crawling, but that’s okay! He’s gotten really good at scooting around in circles, and can unintentionally scoot backwards very well. He gets really frustrated that he can’t crawl, especially when I’m making him do tummy time and all he wants to do is crawl into my lap. He’ll just scoot in a circle until he reaches my leg, then lay his head down on whatever part of me he can get to haha. We’re also still looking on solid foods. Meal time isn’t as rough as it used to be; he’ll at least open his mout...
