Another Milestone

A year ago today we found out we were pregnant for the third time. It came as a surprise during an ultrasound to check on an ovarian cyst. We were six weeks. It was exactly 39 weeks after we found out we had lost Carter, the same amount of time I had carried him for. We went upstairs to see the doctor and had a far different appointment than we had planned on. We were so excited, and shocked. We hadn't expected to get pregnant so quickly after losing little bean. We left the appointment on a high. Almost instantly I knew I wanted to treat the pregnancy as a "when" instead of an "if." I remember going on a few walks that weekend and having talks about what we would do with this baby once it got here, seeing tiny airplanes and thinking they were there to reassure us that everything would be okay. We let ourselves get excited. I let myself get my hopes up. In a matter of minutes, that all changed. For some reason, losing our little five day baby was really hard....

One Month With Hudson

Image
I realized as I was typing this that I just posted our newborn photos a week ago, and now here we are, sharing Hudson's one month photos! He is currently sleeping on my chest, and as I look down at him I have no idea how he ever fit inside my tummy. He's still so small, but he has grown so much! His little cheeks have filled out, and his thighs are starting to get chunkier too. He also finally has a little tummy. I'll never say I want him to stop growing, but I know I'm going to miss this stage when it's over. We finally transitioned him out of preemie clothes on Sunday. His preemie pajamas stopped fitting a few days before, but we finally had to give in and have him start wearing newborn clothes. His head got too big for the hole in the preemie clothes haha. The onesies are still a little big, and some pants don't fit him yet either, but for the most part everything fits really well. He just still is so tiny! One thing I haven't documented yet is the nic...

The Newborn Phase

Image
A week after we had Hudson, we were lucky to have my friend Shaunie come over and take newborn pictures for us! It was the first time Brandon and I had both been ready before noon, so it was a big day haha. I wanted to share a few of our favorites, and give a big thank you to Shaunie for capturing Hudson's teeny tiny newborn phase for us!

Life With a Newborn

Image
The past three weeks have been a dream. I mean that in the best way, but also, it still doesn't feel real. There have been so many times that I look at Hudson and it hits me that he is ours and we get to keep him forever. I honestly thought we'd never get here. And there is a part of me that is holding my breath, waiting for someone to come take him from us. I think it's going to be a long time before my mind realizes that he is a permanent part of our family. But holy crap I love him so much! I'm going to start with the boring stuff, just to get it out of the way. Recovery has been pretty rough. It's not even my incision site that hurts, but I have had quite a bit of back pain since we came home from the hospital. It has gotten so bad a few times that I've thrown up, which is not something I do. We went to the ER the Sunday after we came home, just to make sure that it wasn't anything more serious than trapped gas from the c-section, and thankfully it wa...
